Now don’t be too intimidated by the charred term in the title. You know those delicious browned bits of goodness you see on the sides of the broccoli? That goodness is the ‘char’ we get when we cook the broccoli at a high temperature. It’s quick and easy and tasty!!

Charred Lemon Broccoli

By Serves: 4 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Head of Broccoli, section into small bite sized pieces*
  • 2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Instructions

1

In a large non-stick pan, heat 2-3 tbsp olive oil on medium/high heat.

2

Once warmed, place all of the broccoli pieces in the pan and season with salt and pepper. Leave the broccoli alone to cook and get color on one side. You’ll want to keep an eye on the broccoli because this is when the charring happens (and there’s a fine line between this and burning).

3

Saute broccoli 7-8 minutes or until crisp-tender, stirring every couple minutes to brown evenly.

4

Remove from the heat, squeeze lemon on top, and toss just before serving.

Notes

*The pieces need to be in bite sized pieces so that they are able to be cooked through before the lovely char turns to burn... so don't make them too big.
